Merge Campus Ministries began in the Fall of 2009 as a vision shared by T.J. Lawhon of Elmwood Missionary Baptist Church and Mark Edwards of Teays Valley Baptist Church. In the beginning the College & Career groups from these two churches met to share the vision of having a ministry on the campus of Marshall University. After meeting at Johnny’s Pizza in Barboursville, West Virginia. As time went on college-aged people from many different local churches began to join us in Bible study and the planning of the campus ministry.
In the Spring of 2010 the group applied to become an official student organization at Marshall. After much prayer and paperwork we were granted approval to be on campus in October of 2010. In Spring of 2010 we began meeting in the Student Center on the campus of Marshall University. Those that had been meeting, working and praying for over a year could now recruit and minister to college students on campus. The first meeting was attended by 29 Marshall students and nine other college-aged people from the Huntington area.
Today, we’re still on campus doing our best to disciple Christian students and reach those who have never given their lives to Jesus.
